14. Weapon Research & Development

Weapons become more effective the more that they're used. You can check your progress towards the next level for that particular weapon whenever you finish a mission and have used that weapon. The highest level for a weapon is Lv3, and this is the best that weapon can technically be. Usage levels do not carry forward to a higher-level weapon of the same kind. For example, if you reached Lv2 Usage on the LAW Lv1, none of that will carry over to the LAW Lv2.

However, increasing the usage level of as many weapons as you want is always going to be useful; having previous weapons at higher-leveled usage will reduce the GMP cost of development for future weapons in the line. As a result, some of the GMP costs in these tables will reflect the costs at higher-level usage; hopefully, this encourages you to grind a bit for usage. To show how much the GMP costs change, my GMP cost of 23795 for the M16A1 Lv2 decreased to the 14000's after having reached Usage Lv2 by firing into the air on Extra Ops 010 a few times. Then at Lv3 usage, the cost was reduced to 7841. GMP costs will also drop depending on whether your R&D soldiers have certain skills, which make development costs of a weapon type drop a little bit. Due to these changes, the GMP costs in the tables are approximate and won't always be the exact number for you.
