2. General Hints & Tips

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was renamed Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence upon release of its HD remake. The game focuses on Naked Snake, who becomes prominent in later (and earlier) titles in the Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid series. Alongside this game are the original two Metal Gear games released on the MSX, which you can find on the main menu. These can be pretty hard since they're so old, and aren't related to any trophies, but it would be fun to play through them and see the origins of the story.

You should be able to get all of the trophies with three playthroughs minimum. There are quite a few trophies that need attention throughout the whole game, so it'd be easier to focus on a group of them that make sense together. Fortunately, there are no difficulty-related trophies, so all playthroughs will be played on Very Easy, which grants you the EZ Gun, which in turn makes things even easier.

  1. The first playthrough will be to just play the game and learn how the story and game works. All the miscellaneous trophies will be obtained throughout this playthrough. You'll get the Patriot and other camouflages for finishing this run.
  2. The second playthrough will be a non-lethal run, while also collecting the various camouflages and facepaints, as well as obtaining all food items at least once during the run. This run will take care of several of the "harder" trophies for this game. Bosses drop camouflages upon a stamina defeat, which makes doubling up on camouflages and non-lethality a perfect match. Alongside the collectibles, getting the Markhor ranking will grant you the EZ Gun, regardless of the difficulty you're playing on. You should already have it due to playing on Very Easy, though.
  3. The last run will be for the Kerotan frog hunt, which will be made easier now that you have the rewards of the previous two playthroughs. You can do this as your second playthrough if you want, but you won't have as many camouflages and facepaints at your disposal, if you think you'll need them. Finishing this trophy will give you stealth camouflage, which will make you completely invisible.

Now that we've got the basis for Snake Eater's walkthrough, let's get to it.
