3. Grand Prix
When you first take control of your character you are in the middle of a press conference. This is your first introduction to the interview system. Here they will ask you a series of standard questions like your name and the likes. The game will actually call you by whatever you selected. Go through these questions until she asks you, "How much of a challenge..." You can always change this later but for now you want to pick the far left option to make the game as easy as it can be. She'll then ask you how many seasons you plan to drive for. This has an actual effect on what teams are available to you but it also means if you pick anything other than seven, one of the trophies will be unavailable to you so pick "7 Seasons." You will have a choice between the following teams.
HRT - Cosworth
Lotus - Cosworth
Virgin - Cosworth
If you picked "5 Seasons" then you'll also have these teams to pick from.
BMW Sauber - Ferrari
STR - Ferrari
And lastly if you picked "3 Seasons" you'll have seven of the twelve teams available to you at the start of the game.
Force India - Mercedes
Williams - Cosworth
Since the first three teams are all rookie teams for 2010, they are all virtually identical statistically speaking so pick whichever you like the look of most. The same applies for BMW Sauber and STR. However Force India is a far superior car and team to Williams. This will end the interview.
When you reach the Paddock, you'll get a short cutscene and your Agent, Gabriel, will walk your through all the things you can interact with inside your truck. Everything in here only applies to Career mode, including your difficulty settings so leave this place and go Outside. Here you'll find Grand Prix, Time Trial, Multiplayer and My F1. This part of the guide focuses on Grand Prix and Time Trial.
Select Grand Prix and then choose any team. I recommend one of the three fastest, McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari, to make it easy to get the first few trophies. Select any driver you want. On the next screen, go to Difficulty Level and turn Braking Assist off. This stops the car from braking for you and will really improve your times. Leave the rest on for now though. The Race Settings should now be Race Only, 1 Lap, Custom, Clear. Choose any track you want, Budapest and Sao Paulo are both short and forgiving, and start the race.
When you get to the garage, this is what you want to do. Open the computer and scroll along to Car Setup. Open Car Setup and then Aerodynamics. Now change the Front Wing Angle to 7 (tiny difference but enough for an trophy). As you go back you should now see Custom on Car Setup. Speak to your Engineer and select Go To Race.
You should be very close to the front so do your best not to hit anyone in this entire race. The AI is really forgiving on this level of difficulty so you shouldn't have any trouble from them as long as you follow the instructions of the line on the road. If you come off the road or hit anyone, just restart. But don't worry if you can't get it as there are plenty of chances later in the game. Coming first in this race should get you four trophies. The first pops when you finish the race and the next three appear when you see the times of everyone.
Nicely driven. You have completed a race without incident
It's a set-up
You successfully won a race using a car set-up which you've created
You finished on the podium in a Career or Grand Prix race
Congratulations! You took your first Career or Grand Prix victory
Once again, load up Grand Prix and choose your car and driver. This time change Participation Level to Long Race Weekend but keep it on 1 Lap. I suggest you pick the same track to shorten the time.
When you arrive in the Pit, your Engineer Rob will walk you through all the features just like Garbiel did in the Paddock. The first thing you want to do is select Tyres and switch yours to Option. I'll speak more on tyres later in the guide when they become important. Now go to your Engineer and select Quick Car Setup. Select the far right option for the least downforce. With all the assists on you should be able to drive it without any problems. Select Go To Track and then pick Sector 3 which will teleport you to the end of the track. Complete what remains of the lap and then set as fast a time as you can on the next lap. Keep doing laps until you complete one without any mistakes. When the time registers at the top left of the screen just pause and Return To Garage. Now load the Race Monitor and open Live Timing. Listen to Rob and then double tap the right bumper to speed forwards time at 30X. You'll need to wait for the session to finish and if someone beats you time, exit the Race Monitor and go back out to beat their time. It will appear at the top left of the screen so you don't need to keep coming back in. If you're miles ahead (at least five seconds or more) then go to Event Info, open Practice Info and Skip To P2. Now repeat the same process here and do the same in P3. Remember to change you tyres to Option. When you're done skip to Qualifying. For your efforts you should get two trophies.
You placed first at the end of all 3 Practice Sessions of a race weekend
When you reach Qualifying, change your tyres and this time select Flying Lap instead of Sector 3. Now repeat what you did in Practice here. You cannot skip to Q2 so just fast forward time in the Race Monitor. Do the same in the last two sessions and you'll get two more trophies. When you come to the end of the last session, make sure you change your camera to the cockpit view so it starts the race in this camera.
You qualified in the number one spot in a single player race
You qualified in pole position with the fastest time in each sector in a single player game
By starting at the front of the grid you've got an easier time getting "Clean license" if you missed it last time. Stay in the cockpit view for the whole race and when you are just moments from crossing the line, press the Back button to trigger a flashback. Press X as soon as you are on a straight (you don't want to exit a flashback in a corner ever since the wheels reset) and then finish the race. You'll get one straight away and another two soon after.
You completed a single player race using only the cockpit view
You have used the Flashback feature and gone on to win the race
You were fastest in practice, qualified on pole and finished first in a single player event
When you get back to the Paddock, once again load up Grand Prix but this time make it 1 Lap or Race Only. However, go to difficulty and change it to Expert. Before you start the race though, scroll down and change AI Difficulty Level to Amateur and Flashbacks to 4. Now load up Monza since that's the easiest for people to deal with if they are not use to driving in manual gears.
When you reach the pits, change your tyres to Option and use Quick Car Setup to put the highest level of downforce on. Once again if you aren't use to driving without traction control on you'll spin out a lot without full downforce. You want to be first by the end of the chicane at the start so you can take it easy and focus on not spinning the car. Now finish the race as normal for two more trophies.
You completed a race using manual gears
You won a single player race without using driver aids
First off, select a Mercedes. Now change the difficulty back to Easy and take off Braking Assist. Before you leave the difficulty screen though, change Pit Limiter and Pit Box Control to Manual. Select Race Only but put the Race Distance to 20% and Weather Setting to Heavy Rain. Now select Hockenheim as your track.
When you reach the Pit, make sure you have a Race Strategy set up. To do so, open Tyres and select Race Strategy. Then select Stop 1, Edit Stop and then set the Target Lap to 7 (any number will do but I didn't want to get caught in traffic). Make sure you have full downforce before you leave.
The race will be around twenty minutes in length which is quite long but you better get used to this since most Career races are this length. This is your first experience with Rain in the game and it's not pretty. Get stuck behind a car and visibility goes completely. At times you won't even be able to see the blinking red lights. Watch out for AI cars spinning out in traffic on the first lap. By the end of this lap you want to be in first and then spend the rest of the race building a lead before your pit stop. When you reach Sector 3 on Lap 7 you'll get a reminder to pit. You might want to read ahead to make sure you get this right.
Go around the last left-hand bend and take it slow at the next right-hander. Follow the dotted line into the pits until the computer takes control of the car and your Engineer tells you to put your limiter on. Hold down the right trigger until the arrows on the ground turn red. Make sure you press B now just before or on the arrows while still holding the right trigger. This will slow your car down to the maximum speed allowed in the pits. As long as this happens before the white line and the arrows turn green again then you won't get a penalty. Being a Mercedes your pit is right at the start of the pit lane so you want to slow down when you hear the horn sound until the arrows turn green. When you see them turn red again a few metres later, hold down the until the car comes to a stop in the pits. When stopped, switch triggers again and hold down the and your car will pull away automatically when the obstructions clear. You'll get the trophy on your way out but remember to press again to turn off the limiter when you hear your Engineer tell you to.
Slick!! You performed a perfectly timed pit stop
Hopefully you'll still be in first at this point so you won't need to pass anyone but 2nd or 3rd is still doable. Now just finish the race for more trophies.
You have won the German Grand Prix in single player driving for Mercedes
You won a single player Grand Prix of 20% distance or higher in heavy rain
Choose a Ferrari and then return all the assists back to normal. Set it to a Short Race Weekend with 3 Laps. Now start a race on Monza.
When you reach the Pit, Skip To Race. This puts you on the back of the grid. Make sure you're in Option Tyres and use Quick Car Setup for the Lowest Downforce. Now go to race.
Make sure you're in first by the end of the first lap. To do so more easily, press x2, to set the engine to its fastest setting. This wears it out quickly but since this is Grand Prix mode and you don't need to worry about your engines its fine. At the end of the first lap, as you approach the chicane at the start of the second lap, you should get an trophy.
You have driven your Formula 1 car above 220 mph / 353 kph
Now finish the race for two more trophies.
You have won at Monza driving for Ferrari in a single player race
Load up Grand Prix for the last time and have a 1 Lap, Short Race Weekend round on Monte Carlo.
Skip straight to Qualifying when you arrive in the Pit. Now change your tyres to Option and put the most amount of Downforce on the car using Quick Car Setup. Go to a Flying Lap and spend the rest of the session making sure you have the fastest lap time. With you in pole position, simply finish the one lap race for the last trophy available in Grand Prix mode.
You have taken pole and won the Monaco Grand Prix in a single player race
After completing Grand Prix mode, start a game of Time Trial. Choose a fast car and any track and then begin the race. Make sure you have the least downforce to make your car as fast as possible and then Go To Track. You should be able to beat the slow Ghost Car on the first lap, just make sure you don't go off the track, hit a wall or use a rewind because that will invalidate the lap.
Well done! You've finished this part of the guide and picked up 21 of the 50 trophies in this mode.
