3. Dragon Fantasy Book I Story walkthroughUpdate notes

One quick note before we begin; I'm not particularly thorough with chest locations. That's because most of the chests are awful. 10G? 25G? Yeah, thanks game, I can get that from just about any enemy I fight. A lot of them are impossible to miss because you'll see them while following the main path anyway. It's better to buy stuff than it is to find it, as the extra levels you get grinding the gold make all the difference. I do make it a point to mention chests that actually matter for one reason or another, though there aren't many.

Odgen's Story

Choose new game and then chapter 1, Odgen's story. After the scene ends you'll need to fight the 2 skeletons. You fight them by going up to them and pressing cn_X. Just keep choosing the fight command until it dies, as you have no magic or items. Kill the other one the same way then talk to Marlon (of the 2 guards with the tiaras or whatever, Marlon is the one on the left). After another scene, talk to the knight. You can't win this fight so don't worry about it. Just keep choosing fight until he beats you.

After another scene you'll be outside a house; go inside and then talk to the guy who shows up at the door. After a scene, talk to the dude at the table to get a weapon and your first trophy.

Press cn_T, go to equip, then press cn_X on the weapon slot and choose the wooden stick to equip it. Leave and go northeast to Derwent Village. North of the weapons shop, you'll find a building with a priest looking dude that has 2 bookshelves. You'll find 2 more in the inn, west of the weapon shop (the inn has 2 Zzz signs by the door). Once you've checked all of those, head outside the village. Wander around and fight enemies to get some gold and level up. Stick near the town and use the inn when your HP is low (it's free!). At level 3, you'll learn Healios, which heals quite a bit of HP and will allow you to stay outside of the village much longer.

Your first objective will be getting enough gold for all the armor and an axe. As a note, when you enter a shop and highlight an item, the window shows you whether the piece of equipment increases your stats (green number) or decreases them (red number). The amount of gold you need (especially for the axe) may seem daunting when the enemies near the village give 1 or 2 gold, but further west you'll find a bat that gives 3 and a lizard that gives 6 in the desert, though note the lizard does a lot of damage until you have all the good armor (then he does barely any). Your healing spells should be enough to keep you healthy, so buying healing items isn't really necessary at this stage of the game. Do note that ropes let you leave the dungeon you're in, and wyvern powders allow you to warp to towns you've visited. As a general rule, you'll want to have at least one of each. Stock up when you see 'em in item shops.

West of the entrance you'll find an alcove with a chest with 25G, and east of the entrance is an alcove with an herb. Head north to find a chest with the lantern. Now head back to the Woodsman (the guy in the house south of Derwent) and talk to him. Next up is the cave in the mountains, northwest of the woodsman's house and Derwent (about halfway between the desert cave and the town). An herb and an antidote can be found in chests just west of the entrance. Follow the other path, grabbing chests on the way if you like. Once you reach a fork, you can go west for more chests, or go north and then east to leave.

Northeast of the cave exit you'll find a village. In the inn you'll find one bookshelf (at the end of the hall in the back of the building). East of the inn is the save room, it has a bookshelf as well (the left one). North of the inn is a building with a ton of bookshelves, but only 3 count for the trophy. In the back row, 2nd from the left and 2nd from the right. In the first row by the tables, only the bookshelf closest to the door on the right side counts.

West of this building is another one. Try to enter and Odgen will talk, then go inside and check the table with the papers on it. There's a bookshelf here, the one on the left counts. There's new armor to be had and a new weapon as well. Once you have the armor you can head to the next objective (the castle northwest of the village, across the bridge and swamp) and farm the rest for the sword here.

After you've purchased everything head to the castle, loot everything on the first floor and the floor below it if you like (via the stairs northwest of the entrance). Then use the stairs northeast of it. Follow the path east to find a lake; northeast of it is a chest, northwest of it is the boss. The boss should pose little problem to you, just keep attacking and keep your health decent (he did about 5-6 damage a hit). By now you should have learned a spell called exitus, use it to leave the dungeon (or fight your way out for the experience and gold if you like).

Return to the 2nd village, go to the healer's house (it's west of the house with a bunch of bookshelves) and talk to the healer. Now, head outside the town and go west to find a castle and town on the coast. Enter the town. South of the weapon/armor shops is a building with some bookshelves. On the left side, the middle one counts. On the right side, the one farthest right counts. In the back, the farthest right one counts, and the 2nd from the left counts. In the inn (west of this building) the bookshelf to the left of the innkeeper counts.

Of note is the bank west of the armor shop, you can store money in 1000 gold increments here. Helpful if you die, as you lose 50% of the gold you have on you. The armor shop has some upgrades. The golden sword in the weapon shop is more expensive than what you have but actually has a lower attack than what you have now, so ignore it. For now, head into the castle. Mad bookshelves right out front. On the left side in the front row, the bookshelf on the right counts, and the one straight north of it does as well. On the right side, the right bookshelf in the front row counts. In the back row the 2nd from the left does as well. North of the left section of bookshelves is a classroom, the far right bookshelf in the right group counts, as does the middle one in the left group. Go straight north of the entrance to find the queen; talk to her.

Farm up for the armor/weapons but beware, enemies are pretty strong around here. The Lt. Slicey enemies especially. Even with the armor upgrades, they do 10-15 damage to me usually. Don't be afraid to heal during battle and stick close to town so you can use the inn as necessary. Once you're ready, head to the dock south of the inn and talk to the guy by the ship, then go up to the ship and press cn_X. In the new village, go to the western-most building (save room) on the north side of the road and check both bookshelves. South of the save room is the inn, both bookshelves in the small rooms on the east side count. The armor shop has one upgrade and the weapon shop has one as well. Farm 'em up.

To continue with the story, enter the building just east of the save room and talk to the guy in the blue shirt on the left side. Then talk to the guy in the red shirt sitting at the table to the east. Now head into the inn and talk to the guy in a brown shirt sitting at the table in the south room. Return to the red shirt guy. Now head to the guy with the red shirt in the market, one stall south and one stall east of the armor shop. Now talk to the blue shirt guy in the big building. After a bunch of talking go in the door north of you and talk to the captain. Use the ship to go back to Wester. Head outside and go east, in the yellow mountains you'll see a lone brown one, go to the spot right under it to find the captain's stuff. Heal up in Wester and then walk back to the captain (use the ship). You'll be attacked by a monster, should be an easy kill. 3-4 turns at most. Once you make it, talk to the captain twice.

From here, go northwest and across the bridge. Follow the coast north and then west until you reach a big patch of swamp. Just past it, go south to find the entrance to the volcano. Follow the path to the second floor. At the fork, go north and keep going north to the wall, then east for some treasure chests. Go back down the stairs and go east at the fork to find 4 chests in the north. From here, go south until you can't anymore, then go west to find some stairs to the next area.

Follow the path to a fork, get on the south ship and follow the path here to find some stairs down. The boss is north, make sure you heal up. He does about 20 damage with a regular attack and 35-40 with his fireball. Keep your health above 50-60 or so using healing spells or any herbs you've picked up and the fight won't pose much trouble. You'll probably want to leave either with a rope or exitus as you likely don't have much MP left. Return to Bluefin and heal up. Stock up on healing stuff if you have some gold. The enemies on the path to the next town are really strong, doesn't hurt to be prepared.

Once ready, head south out of Bluefin, across the bridge. Follow the small strip of land to find a desert. In/past the desert is when the strong monsters start showing up. Top your HP off with the healing spell off every battle to be safe, as some of the enemies are going to do as much as 30 damage a hit. Go south through the desert, then follow the coast east to find Crescent Cove. In the town, enter the building to the west (up the 2 flights of stairs). Go in the back and check the far right and far left bookshelves. The far west building in the south is the inn, and both bookshelves count. The building north of the weapon/armor shop (east side of town) has two bookshelves that count. The 2 that aren't directly behind the desk. You should get a trophy here.

If not, backtrack to the previous towns using the warp spell and find what you missed. The armor shop has 3 upgrades, farm for it all. Then get some money for some potato juices and turboherbs. Rest up as well. Talk to the lady in the northwestern building (above the inn) and then head outside. Go straight north to find a cave. Go northeast to find stairs down (don't go north, it's a dead end right now). Follow the path east, north, and then west to the next stairs. At the end of this hallway is a chest with a Miner's Trinket in it, make sure you get it.

Now head back to the entrance (or use a rope and go back in). Head back to Crescent Cove and talk to the lady in the northwestern building (in the red dress named Sally). Rest up and stock up, then return to the cave in the north. Go north instead of east this time, and follow the path to a dude and talk to him. After the scene use the path behind him to enter a new area. Follow the path to the boss, but make sure you heal up as he can potentially be a pain in the ass.

This boss' regular attack did 30 or so damage to me, but his spells hit as high as 71. As a result you want to keep your health above 100 or so just to be safe. You should have healiara and possibly healarius spells by now, which heal much more than the healios spell. Healiara heals about 100 and Healarius healed me completely. The boss also poisons you, but the max it did to me was 7 damage in a turn, so it's better to just take the damage. The boss does it often and it doesn't do much damage, so you waste a turn curing it. The boss can also heal for more damage than you do (I did about 90 and it healed about 110), so wasting turns on curing poison can make the fight much longer than it needs to be.

Once you've won, backtrack to the guy and talk to him. Now head back to town and rest up if needed. Head west and a bit north to the middle of the desert. There's an oasis here; check the spot under it to find the armor you're looking for. Head back to town and rest. Buy any armor you haven't and blow any money you have on healing items (potato juice, turboherbs, etc) as we are heading into the final dungeon, so we have no use for money now. Enemies from here on out are much stronger, and it's not really safe to use fast-forward anymore, as a fight can go south quickly. Dying is much more likely now, so use all that gold so you don't lose it. Be ready to heal in battle and possibly even run. Of special note are the Ronin, who do good damage and can also put you to sleep. It's entirely possible to not wake up while he depletes all your health, so make sure you are keeping your health full between battles to try and make things easier.

Once ready, exit the town and go east across the bridge. At the fork, go north and follow the path across the bridge, then go south at the next fork. Follow the path north to find a castle in the lava; go inside. Head northwest into the door and then up the many stairs to find a boss. Heal up and then talk to Biggs. It's an easy fight; he does about 50 damage a hit but he attacks first, so heal when you are around 100-110 HP to be safe.

Once he's dead, head back down all the stairs and then once you're back in the first room, go all the way east and enter this door. Go all the way to the top and fight the skeleton at the end of the hallway. Wedge does 60-70 damage a hit but attacks after you, so make sure you are healing at 100-110 HP to be safe. After you beat him you'll find a bunch of jail cells behind him, ENTER THE ONE WITH THE SAVE ROOM GUY FIRST AND SAVE!!!!

Once you have saved, enter the cell to the west of him. The Dark Knight will appear, fight him. He does about 55-60 damage a hit, so the fight is no different from the skeletons. After the fight you'll get a scene. South of the cells is a chest with dragon armor, which is better than what you have so snag it. Return to the first room again and go in the big door in the middle of the room.

Head east and follow the path to the next area. Now take the northwest path to find a sword. After examining the sword with cn_X you'll have a scene and then a new set of weapon/armor/shield/helmet. Equip it all and prepare for the end. Head back to the fork and go all the way east for some good items, then head north and follow the path to the final boss.

He starts by only doing about 40-50 damage. After about 10 hits, the second phase of the battle starts. He now hits as low as 30 or as high as 80 (usually 70-80), so heal earlier than usual to make sure you don't die. What I did was attack until I was 100 or lower, than used Healrius and repeated until he went down. You'll get a trophy during the credits.

Anders' Story

After the credits, choose new game and pick chapter 2, Anders' story. As I mentioned previously, Anders kind of sucks early on. Your other member (Chest) is much better. Don't be afraid to run from battles (especially the Snake enemies named Sam) if you need to. Note that most of the chests in the first dungeon have armor for Chest, make sure to grab it so he can survive a bit better.

Anders' story starts right after the dark knight attack. You'll be in the castle, head into the east wing and talk to the only guard that isn't laying in bed, then head north to the throne room and check above the throne. Follow the hallway to the next area, then go west for a chest. Head east to the next area. To the east is a chest, the north path takes you to a fork. North is a chest, west are some more chests and north from these chests will take you to the exit. However, there is a door in here, go inside to heal and save. At the exit is a boss. He does around 10-15 damage to Anders and less to Chest at this point. Keep Anders healthy and the fight is simple.

After the scene, head back into the castle (...) and talk to the queen on the throne. Head back into town and talk to the old lady between the bank and item shop in the northwest building. Recruit both Punchy and Casty. Buy any armor/weapon upgrades you can afford and then head to the docks. Go to the tower via the docks (south ship, not west). There's stairs in all 4 corners of this map. Go into the northwest and southeast ones for chests (southwest is a dead end) and then go into the northeast one.

Follow the path to a fork. The stairs to the east lead to one chest in the northwest corner of this area. Southwest leads to a chest and a bunch of stairs that lead to a weapon. Get it and leave the tower. You may want to try some fights outside of Wester to level up if you feel weak, enemies outside Wester are pretty tough at this point, especially the knight enemies. The alternative is to rush to the next objective, running from everything. Once you're ready to go, rush east from Wester to Lakehaven, the 2nd village Odgen went to. Heal up and maybe buy some items, then head northwest to the cave we went into as Ogden. Take the northeast stairs. Go east to the lake, then northwest for a scene, and a trophy after.

Now leave. Return to Lakehaven and then go into the cave southwest of it. Head north, west, and then south. Go all the way south to a wall, then southwest to leave. Head to Derwent village to the east. Go into the inn and talk to the guy with the eyepatch for a trophy.

Return to Wester and stock up on anything you haven't purchased, as this next dungeon is the end of the story. Use the western ship when you're all set up. Enter the cave and head north, then west across the ice (you'll slide until you hit a wall or other obstacle on ice. Slide into walls and the broken ice to get over there). Easiest way is to just go all the way north into the wall, then west to the stairs. From here go southeast to find some stairs surrounded by lava, head straight east of the stairs to find the next area. In this area go north until the area opens up, then immediately go west (along the wall, basically) to get stuck on a break in the ice. Then go north. You'll be on dry land again, straight north is a cave with a fire to heal/save; do so. Follow the path to the next area, and then keep going north to find a necklace.

Heal up and head south, you'll be ambushed by a boss. Nothing special about this one. Hits around 30 on your squishier teammates, so keep them above 35-40 to be safe. Anders and possibly Casty will have fire spells (blastios and/or blastiara). Have Anders/Casty use their fire spells while Serps and Punchy attack regularly. Use Anders/Casty to heal as necessary. It's not a particularly difficult fight, honestly. Once it's done backtrack to the ship (can't use a rope for some reason) and use it. You'll go to Bluefin, and after you walk off the docks you'll get a scene and you'll be done. Anticlimactic no? You get a trophy out of it at least.

Jerald's Story

After the credits, choose chapter 3, Jerald's story. After the scene, you'll be in Jobport. We'll start by getting an easy trophy. You need to pickpocket 25 people. There's no special way to do it, just talk to them from different angles until a coin pops out. However, only certain characters can drop coins. The guy in the green shirt on the north side of the lake (west side of town) drops one. The 2 kids, guy in the green shirt and lady in a red dress in the middle of town (near the weapon shop or save room) all drop coins. The kid by the building in the northeast side of the map (west of the guy by the lake) also drops one. The elderly person in the blue shirt near the south exit of town drops one as well. Once you've gotten a coin from them all, enter a building, leave, and repeat until you have your trophy. Sometimes they don't drop coins, so if you've talked to them from all 4 directions, just give up and move on.

Now head to the south exit and talk to the guards, then leave. Head northeast to the next town. Head east across the bridge. Enter the northeast building. You'll have a line of bookcases, and one has what looks like stairs behind it, and the books are blue instead of the normal colors. Press cn_X on it. Head inside and talk to the lady at the table with the red hat/scarf. Then talk to the lady behind the counter with the red...turban thing. Talk to her a second time. Something to note is that you have no healing spells right now, and though you'll get one from leveling up fairly quickly, you won't have the MP to use it very often at all for a while. As a result, farming for the armor/weapon upgrades and stocking up on a few healing items is recommended. I'd go ahead and farm all the upgrades the 2nd town has to offer, for both the better stats and some levels. Once you're ready, head west of the 2nd town (or northwest of the 1st) to find a cave; enter it. The southeast edge of this town has a ladder down to the actual dungeon, and north of the ladder is an outhouse you can save at. Go down the ladder when ready.

In here, there are no random encounters, and most of the chests are enemies with rubbish rewards, so I suggest just ignoring them. From the ladder, go all the way southeast to a fork, go straight east all the way to a wall, then go south and keep going south (ignore the path going west) to find a ladder down. Follow the path through a couple areas until you go down a ladder and can either go north or south. Go south and go up the first ladder you come across. Follow the path to another ladder and use it. From here go straight west to find a path to another ladder; once you go down, you'll get another trophy.

Loot all the chests and then go up the other ladder (right side of area). From here, go all the way west and then north to leave. Now return to town and heal if necessary. Go back to the guild in the 2nd town and talk to the lady behind the counter to get some cash, then go to the Oasis. It's just northeast of the bandit cave/town we were just in. Northwest of where you enter is another hole, enter it. This area has random encounters but if you farmed as I suggested then they will be very easy. The chests aren't trapped, so feel free to loot them if you want. In the hole, head northeast to find a cave to the next area. West of here are chests, go east to find a lake. Northwest of it is an emerald we need for the story. North and northeast of it are chests. Once you have all that, go in the stairs southeast of the lake to leave. Head back to the guild in the 2nd town and talk to the lady behind the counter.

The next objective gives us 10k gold, so if you have more than 10k now, you can spend money on upgrades in the bandit cave town until you have 10k (then you'll have the 20k required once we finish up the next section). You should have some miscellaneous stuff in your inventory you can sell to help out. If you can get the armor at least, that will help a lot. The only weapon upgrade is one for Ramona that costs 2k and only gives 3 attack over what you got in the 2nd town, so not really worth it. The enemies in the next area are pretty strong, so I'd recommend grinding a bit and stocking up on a bunch of healing items. Once you're ready, head to the 2nd town and exit the town from the east side (where the guild is).

Head northeast and enter the cave. Head all the way north, then west to the next area, then go into the cave. Go a tiny bit west and then north and enter the cave, then move to the next area. Again go all the way north, then enter the cave slightly west. Follow the path to find an orb. Now backtrack or use a rope, then go to the guild. We're heading to the end of the game, so buy any upgrades and stock up on healing stuff if you're low, just in case.

Now, head to the castle on the west side of town and go through the east door. Talk to the guy at the table below the old man in a blue shirt. Watch the scene. When you regain control, go back to the castle and talk to the same guard for another scene. Walk east a bit and you'll start another scene, though you'll fight a bunch of guards. They shouldn't pose much trouble to you though; use Ramona's healing spell or herbs if necessary. Once you regain control again, go south for another scene and then a boss fight. Kill the 2 trolls first and then focus the boss. He never did more than 10 damage to me, but you might want to keep your health high just in case. He dies quickly, so it's not a hard fight. You'll get another scene afterward and then 2 trophies assuming you did the stories in the same order.

Intermission M

From where you start, head straight north and into the house, talk to the woman for a scene. Just west of her house is an inn, and west of that is a save room. North of these 2 buildings is the item shop. Head south of the save room and you'll find another house (serves no real purpose). West of this house you'll find a path to a cave. In here you'll want to get into 2 fights. Have Woodsman use capture, and Ramona attack. She should hit first and weaken the enemy enough for Woodsman to capture it. Once you have 2 monsters, go back to the inn and heal (they have the same HP as when you captured them so they'll be weak otherwise). Head back inside the dungeon and follow the path to find 4 chests, open them all and go into the next area. Follow the path and you'll find a door; inside is a bed that heals you and lets you save.

Head outside the door and keep following the path. You'll run into some rocks with black and gold dots, go up to them and press cn_X. This gives you materials to make stuff. Follow the path mining everything as you go. Instead of going into the black cave, head south and you can break the wall at the end of the ladders with cn_X and go back to town. Heal up if you need, then get rid of both monsters so you can capture some better ones. To do so, talk to Freya in the first house we went in at the start of the story and drop them off. Head back into the cave using the exit behind the item shop. Head into the black cave to the north and walk around until you get into a fight with a creeper; capture it. You can capture another creeper or get another monster deeper in this dungeon if you like. Head into the portal in the north end of the room and follow the path to the next area. You'll get a trophy after you've captured your 4th monster, if you didn't get it after the creeper.

This area is fairly tough, so don't be afraid to use a rope to back out and heal. You want to get all the minerals here as well. If you follow the south path, you'll loop to a fork and can go west to the stairs you came from. Once you've cleared it out, return to town and make as much diamond equipment as possible. You should have enough to make a full set for Woodsman. The monsters can equip it too, so go ahead and throw some on them if you have extra somehow. Once you're ready, head back in. Once in the portal, go to the next area and head all the way east, then north at the fork. Follow this path into the next area, then head straight north to find a dragon. He does about 30-40 damage max, so keep everyone a bit higher than that and go to town attacking it. After you win, you'll get your final trophy.

That's it for the completion, I hope you enjoyed it! Congrats!
