2. Story walkthrough

This guide will be split by the three major strands. Each major strand has four different endings.

The first section remains the same for every playthrough (in fact, after your first, you don't need to do the first few actions). Here we go!

Opening Section (up to the Whale)

Scroll right with R2/R and interact with the bottle. After the dialogue, head to the man playing the flute to the right. Then go further right and enter the orange house. Head further right and interact with the man. Go back out of the house and head left to the pier.

Now just sail right until you are swallowed up.

Great Barnacled One

It’s dark inside the whale, but the men appear to be intact.

Escape The Whale (Barrels Equipped)

Lose the Race, Left Tunnel Ending

• Talk to the girls by the fire
Go all the way left until you see three barrels, interact with them
Interact with them again after the dialogue
Head right and go through the door behind your ship
Scroll right, get through the dialogue
Interact with the uvula, get through the dialogue

At this point you'll get:

Wooden Trousers

“Aye, they’ll float,” nods Steady Beard.

Move the cursor to the blonde Burly (Hasty Beard) and hold X until he falls back to last place (you don't need to follow him with the cursor once you are holding X)

The orbs lead on, out through the cavern’s deep tunnels and beyond the island.

Swim right for a moment. Stop and swim left. Swim to the right a little again until you see an island.
It's not an island, it's a jellyfish! When the tentacle is on its head, move your cursor over it and hold X until one of the Men heads over there. Repeat for the other tentacle so both are being held in place.

Once the dialogue is finished you will unlock:

A Bargain to Make

“Right, then. Let’s be off!” commands Brave Beard, striking a leaderly pose.

Hold a trigger (or shoulder button on Vita) to open the curtains
After the dialogue, interact with the Musical Wizard again

With a rumble, the island sinks slowly into the sea, carrying all hands with it.

Head left along the island and through the house to see the end.

Defeat the Jellyfish, Leave on the Raft Ending

Talk to the girls by the fire
Head left and go through the door behind your ship
Scroll right, get through the dialogue
Interact with the uvula, get through the dialogue

Swim right for a moment. Stop and swim left. Swim to the right a little again until you see an island. (You won't have to do any of this if you've seen the jellyfish before.)
When the tentacle is on its head, move your cursor over it and hold X until one of the Men heads over there. Repeat for the other tentacle so both are being held in place.

Hold a trigger (or shoulder button on Vita) to open the curtains
After the dialogue, interact with the Raft, not the Wizard (don't press the triggers!)

Begone!

The men push off, paddling the raft beyond the island and into the night.

Head left along the island and through the house to see the end.

Lose to the Jellyfish, Become Human Ending

Talk to the girls by the fire
Head left and go through the door behind your ship
Scroll right, get through the dialogue
Interact with the uvula, get through the dialogue

Swim right for a moment. Stop and swim left. Swim to the right a little again until you see an island. (You won't have to do any of this if you've seen the jellyfish before.)
Wait for the jellyfish to grab a Burly Man and interact with the tentacle to make it drop him again. Do this once more with a different Burly Man captured.

Once the dialogue is finished you will unlock:

Vengeance Satisfied

The creature drags the struggling men deeper beneath the waves, finally tossing them aside in disgust.

• Hold R2 (or R on Vita) until the Seals are far from each other and change form.

In Need of Assistance

Heedless of the warning, the burly seals spread out as they swim, until the spell around them weakens and they become human once more.

Lose to the Jellyfish, Become Seals Ending

Talk to the girls by the fire
Head left and go through the door behind your ship
Scroll right, get through the dialogue
Interact with the uvula, get through the dialogue

Swim right for a moment. Stop and swim left. Swim to the right a little again until you see an island. (You won't have to do any of this if you've seen the jellyfish before.)
Wait for the jellyfish to grab a Burly Man and interact with the tentacle to make it drop him again. Do this once more with a different Burly Man captured.

• Hold R2 (or R on Vita) to continue, but make sure to pause if the bubble develops a sharp corner, which means it may burst. You need to keep inside the bubble so only move with R2/R again once the corner has smoothed itself away again. Keep heading to the surface and let things play out.

Surfacing, they find themselves men once more, who, for the moment, splash about like happy children under the moonlit sky.
