9. Assassin's Creed II Sequence 07: The Merchant of VeniceUpdate notes

Sequence 07 is comparatively long to the last few sequences you played through, which only makes sense considering you're being introduced to the largest location in the game. It's a good idea to reach most of the viewpoints (you won't be able to get to one) when you first reach Venice so you can use your mini-map early on.

Intermission

Once Desmond is out of the Animus, Lucy will tell him to meet her downstairs so he can help turn on the security system (as if she couldn't have done that herself). There are four red glowing panels around the open space that you're shown, and they're all easy to get to; two are on ground level, and you can get to the other two by climbing two different ladders near the back wall. As you do so, Desmond and Lucy will talk about Subject 16 and why they're running through Ezio's memories as opposed to someone else. When you're done, run back over to Lucy and she'll tell you to get some rest.

Make your way back up to the Animus, since that's where your bed is, and Desmond will have a pretty heavy hallucination of lots of Templar knights filling the hallway. If only they were that easy to find in the first Assassin's Creed game. Speaking of that game, Desmond's hallucinations will take the better of him, and you'll now be in control of Altaïr Ibn-La'ahad. Follow your target all the way up to a tall tower of the city, and you'll learn that the woman you're following is none other than Maria. Altaïr and Maria will have themselves a good time atop the tower before you're prompted to do a leap of faith. Desmond will then realize that the memory isn't following Altaïr anymore, and he'll wake up after he makes an assumption as to why that is. After the crew talks to you, walk back to the Animus to see Venice for the first time.

Memory 01: Benvenuto

When you arrive in Venice, find Leonardo near where you start off and talk to him. The two of you will take a tour across the nearby area as you make your way towards Leonardo's new workshop, and at the end, Leonardo will invite you for a hug. It's up to you whether or not to accept and you don't have much time to do so, but it doesn't matter in the long run. From now on, you'll bring codex pages to this workshop to decipher them as opposed to Leonardo's original workshop in Florence.

Memory 02: That's Gonna Leave a Mark

When you get to the front of the palace, some thieves will distract the guards while the one female thief that bumped into you during the previous memory tries to scale the wall. Archers will shoot her in the leg, causing her to fall and ask for your help. Follow Rosa as she makes her way to the docks and defeat all the enemies that come after you. When you've almost made it, Rosa will collapse and you'll have to carry her the rest of the way. When you make it to the docks, another thief will put him in her boat, and you'll be tasked with taking care of all the archers that try to fire at them as they sail to the thieves' guild. Take Rosa up to the table in the guild and help her get patched up to finish the memory.

Memory 03: Building Blocks

This small memory consists of a short meeting between Ezio and Antonio, the leader of the thieves' guild. Ezio will accept Antonio's offer and will help out where he can.

After this memory, three more are available. The first one you should go for is Memory 07 so you can advance your climbing skills and reach areas far faster than you were able to before.

Memory 04: Breakout

Talk to Ugo on a rooftop to start this memory, where you need to rescue three groups of thieves and bring them back to him. Travel to whichever of the three locations you'd like to go to first, then defeat whichever guards give you trouble and free the thieves. Then take them to Ugo so you can head towards the next cell. It's pretty simple.

Since there are fairly high amounts of guards surrounding each cell, you can try to get the No-Hitter trophy here now. You need to defeat ten enemies in a single instance of combat without being hit once. The best way to do this is to use smoke bombs and kill enemies as they're stunned. If you don't get it during this memory, don't worry; there's a far easier method of getting the trophy that will become available soon.

Memory 05: Clothes Make the Man

With all your men freed, you now need to gather some soldiers' uniforms for them to use as disguises. The chests these uniforms are in are fairly loosely guarded and getting to them is very easy, so this shouldn't take you long. After you have all three sets, you need to row a specific boat at a dock back to where you started so the thieves can use it later.

Memory 06: Cleaning House

After your meeting with Antonio in Memory 03, return to the office and he'll tell you of three traitorous thieves that need to be dealt with. Travel around the district and kill all three to end the memory. It doesn't require much explanation and is very straight-forward.

Memory 07: Monkey See, Monkey Do

Talk to Rosa outside of Antonio's office and she'll teach you how she climbs so well; since she's unable to actually do it herself, she'll have a buddy show you how it's done. Climb the scaffolding as the fellow thief did before you, and you'll finish this short memory.

Memory 08: By Leaps and Bounds

Now that you can climb as well as possible, you'll now be able to get to the "last" viewpoint in the San Polo District. Rosa will be at the base of the building to challenge you to climb to the top within five minutes, which is of course way too much time to pose a challenge. If you haven't synched the viewpoint, make sure to do so before jumping off and talking to Rosa near the hay bale on the ground.

Memory 09: Everything Must Go

It's time to storm the palazzo. Burst through the guards and climb the wall so you can get inside, then drop down and find Emilio Barbarigo. It's a lot easier to do than it sounds. If you'd like to, you can try to kill as many guards as possible before killing Emilio to make things safer for you, but after Emilio dies, your thief buddies will shoot down all of the enemies in the palazzo for you.

With Emilio dead, Ezio sets his sights towards Carlo Grimaldi, the man who was with Emilio just before he died.
