Don't forget Uncharted 2. That was a breathtaking opening. Ooh and maybe TLOU should have a spoiler on. What happens at the end of the intro is a pretty big deal.

The original Bioshock was my game back in the day, man.

    Definitely better than Infinite.

I think The Last of Us' opening is priceless, and it gets me every time. I don't think a list like this could exist without mentioning it - what distinguishes it is the physicality of the acting, the desperation and despair that both visibly and audibly hits like a truck, embodying a loss all of us dread to imagine - the sudden and violent rending of your most beloved.

However, regather you composure and remember that it's just a game, I think you are quite right to call up Arkham Asylum and Dead Space, even if they are more for their immersion than their ambition.

I also agree with rdenton85 that Uncharted 2 deserves on the list (though it is impressively long already). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqAEb6UIdQA

God of War deserves a mention! I believe it's the first game to reveal it's ending at the start! just set the tone for a truly great series of games and stories! :D

Fallout 3 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare made my britches tighten up quite a bit. I also really enjoyed Far Cry 3.

I clicked on this article quite by coincidence, wandering, and I stopped to read The Last of Us section (and a few others). I am surprised and delighted to see my younger self felt the same way 🤣

I'm playing Days Gone now and there are obvious similarities, but the amount of emotion TLoU managed to convey in just a touch over 15 minutes, and all the way back in 2013, it still stays with me. I guess now I see why the famous turning point scene in FFVII is so legendary too, despite being portrayed in about seven polygons. I think a lot of stories still don't get it. With Joel, it's not the simple fact of the outcome. It's the earth-shattering that happens to his soul in that moment.
I never change, except in my affections.
