A Video Game Renaissance

Great read. While I don't necessarily agree with the points, I DO feel like a lot of people are underselling this generation. In the past few years, we got some of the most impressive games we've seen in a while. The Witcher 3, The Witness, Inside, even No Man's Sky (granted, it's a poor game, but that small team did still manage something astonishing).

And I think there's something to be proud of here. Microsoft got things kicked off, but it was Sony's willingness to take chances and trust creators that's really paying off dividends. I mean, Naughty Dog went from Jak to the Last of Us in a generation. They've supported all sorts of smaller, amazing Indie Projects. It's what has kept them afloat this generation, and it's something that both Microsoft and Nintendo are playing catch-up on (It's probably the only time ever that I can remember Nintendo EVER taking a page from someone else's book like this).

And we should be proud of it too. That's not to say that people who don't buy indie games are bad people, but rather Sony took a chance on creators and trusting that people would show up when games were made for gamers, and people showed up. The message was sent loud and clear that while we love our big AAA games, we also adore people who take chances and want to do something different or refresh an old idea. It wasn't Sony's willingness to take chances that spurred MS, Nintendo, and even EA to take notice, it was our openness to that.

So bravo everyone. Way to go Sony for doing the right thing, and doing what so many people want. Way to go consumers who supported that ecosystem. And way to go to the publishers that have wised up and paid attention. We love you!

Interesting, I don't agree completely, but it's nice to see original articles like this on TT.
    Thanks.

I read this a few weeks ago and forgot to come back and comment - it's a bit too long to read and formulate a comment all in one. I felt mostly the same as the others, I don't agree on everything but it's a very interesting analogy and well written too. The only thing I remember catching me off guard was 'The Davinci code' as a "History Book" .... not sure how ironic that is depending on intended subtext.
    I'm sure I had a signature before...
