I'm going to refrain from a long answer to avoid going too far off topic on this poll, but in short, if you want to vet your games you need only consider three factors:
1) Whether it's worth seeing at all. Use reviews to tell you this, not to tell you how much you should like it.
2) Whether you can afford its price. This will be the third factor for some, but for others it will be the end of the line.
3) Whether you can afford its time investment. Excessively long games may have to be sacrificed. For many mediocre games this will be a quick elimination factor. For others it means they are worth a quick swing.1.I get what you mean about it not being there to tell you to like it such as the Destiny interview where the dude was like oh you will throw money at the screen for emotes, blah blah blah, that really annoyed me but reviews to me are not about being told to like it, they are for gathering basic information such as what the game play is like for example the mechanics, genre, setting for example FPS setting means a lot to me and is important, if it is modern shooter big no no , so i already know that the game is not to my liking but if it is a setting like Doom, Bioshock etc then it's a possible yes but not a certainty so i can then watch game play videos to get more of an idea about it. The games i will dwell deeper in to reviews are something like ALIEN Isolation because i am a huge fan of the movies so i personally enjoyed dev diaries etc and saw them as a form of entertainment as much as playing the game was. When it comes to new IPs i will definitely be looking at as much information about it because just going on a game by name to me is ridiculous(Totally my own opinion peoples =p) and this is where reviews and any form of info on the game is more important than any other game but in fact it does not need to be a new IP it can just be a new game to me that i personally have never heard of which may as well be a new IP because i know nothing of the game at the same time a new game even with with a name that i have played before is essentially new also because we can look at Mass Effect and then Mass Effect 2 and the differences but i at least have some background knowledge such as the basic story line and whether i enjoyed that or not, but because when i was younger (like aged 5-11)i would just look at a box, buy the game and take it home, load the tape up for 30mins or so on my Commodore 64 and it could end up a load of crap or it may not even load at all, juts look at all the poorly ported PC games recently, reviews will help those people out that have been burned numerous times before or some will just go on blind faith but that is up to them. This is the luxury of the time we live in though, that all this information is out there to help us decide before the games release such as previews, dev diaries, game play videos etc for those who like to pre-order or buy day 1 and if like me after release and always after release for me are the reviews, once i make a mistake i learn bloody fast and i will never pre-order again. But i don't think we really need to be discussing this at all tbh we all know what reviews, previews etc are for so i wont waste any more of our time on that (Says me after the longest paragraph in the reply)

2. Definitely a big factor for me for example the Lego Dimensions at ARGOS is £99.99 and yes you can get it a little less expensive in other places for the likes of £79.99 but still i am not willing to pay all that extra for some plastic, i would rather i could buy the game and buy the expansions as normal DLC for cheaper than have to fork out all that extra and usually i don't even bother with DLC at all.
3.This does not really count for me, i am not a parent, i don't have much commitments apart from the course i am on which is only Monday - Thursday 10am -3pm but tbh even if i was working a full week i would always fit in time for gaming as it is something i enjoy just like other people fit in time for other activities in their life i would always find time to fit this in even if it meant taking a month to complete a game that would normally take a week i don't see that as an issue, i mean there are some games i never finished the full campaign yet such as Skyrim but the amount i did play was enough for me and i enjoyed every minute of it. Youtube gave me the ending and i was happy with that. This answer though will vary from gamer to gamer but to me time is something i don't really take in to account unless the game i bought for £40-£60 lasts like an hour then i will be a bit annoyed of course but the longer it lasts the better imo :)
I actually got to the end of Skyrim but had used all my health potions
