Babylon’s Fall is going offline — grab its trophies, maybe a free copy

  • Posted on 21 September 22 at 14:15, Edited on 21 September 22 at 14:40 by superniceguy_2
Those who bought the game can claim a full refund, even if you have played it all these months and completed it trophy-wise. There should have been more reason to play the game for years than just get trophies, but they are not doing it.

You first need to contact Square Enix, they then tell you to contact the retailer and explain the situation, and show the retailer the email from Square Enix giving permission. The retailer will refund you, and Square Enix will refund the retailer.

Cool, but still a palava, whereas CDPR with Cyberpunk announced this was ok publicly, and just needed to contact the retailer

This update, first reported by Push Square, will hardly lessen the sting for players who paid full price for a game that announced its closure before even a year of sale was concluded.
That is for sure, but the bigger picture, and which causes the bigger damage, is that this now loses faith in buying similar games like Skull and Bones or the Ghostbusters game. No chance I will buy those now unless a total success, and topping the gameplay charts. Therefore increasing the chances of more failures and quicker shut downs than Babylons Fall, which is what probably caused people to be wary of Babylons Fall in the first place Now people like me are now wary too, and will avoid buying too.

jesus christ, we get it, you're not a fan of the closure

i just didnt buy it cos it didnt look fun lol

the market barely had faith anyway due to years of games causing issues, i'd hardly call babylons fall the pinnacle of it all, deserving of like 50 paragraphs and 3-in-a-row comments lol

It is not just Babylons Fall but now no longer can trust buying games like Skull and Bones and Ghostbusters next month.

I have experienced shutdowns for 20 years, but this is unprecedented, no other game has shut down this fast, and made no efforts in refunding, unless you chased it.

Square Enix are just churning out cheaply made low quality games hand over fist to make a quick buck, and charging loads for them.

When I see Forspoken digital deluxe edition for £90 I just see money down the drain. Before last week I saw fun times ahead, and could not wait for its release.

The same goes for Star Ocean, and there is not much positivity from others who played the demo.

The joy of gaming is now gone, no thanks to Square Enix

If it was not for Square Enix confirming refunds to me this morning, I would not have posted anything more today. I thought it was the courteous thing to let people be aware of it.

you're thinking way too much into one server shut down lol

its business - if it isnt working, why keep losing out money on it - you expect every studio and every game to be afloat magically. not every company or developer is producing games just for the pure fun of audiences. we're customers, they're business folk. this game didn't work, thus it's going down.

please dont quote me for your massive nonsensical paragraphs!

With that attitude this will keep happening. And it is not just from ONE server shutdown as I have said I have experienced many server shutdowns - Everquest Online Adventures, City of Heroes, Star Wars Galaxies, The Matrix Online, Vanguard, Phantasy Star Online 1 and 2 (DC/GC/Xbox) and Universe (Xbox 360), FFXI on Xbox 360, Hper Scape, Space Junkies etc

Which is why I am going on about it to prevent rubbish being constantly released or they are prepared to support it.

The only excuse for such a quick shutdown is if they went bankrupt, and had to cancel Forspoken/Star ocean/ Valkyrie etc and shut down FFXIV and FFXI online etc.

As they are still fully functioning then should support it, for a few more years at least, and in future make sure their games are quality that last, otherwise if this is all acceptable and because they are a business then it will keep happening and they rip people off.

Not everyone reads this site, and will know they can get refund, will just assume its business, oh well, money lost. No one should experience this.

Cyberpunk has now reached its highest number of players in last 24 hours, after nearly 2 years

    https://www.ign.com/articles/cyberpunk-2077-sees-highest-pla...

This is why it is wreckless to shut down a game after only 6 months - Give us a chanceto play it and get round to it.

People have waited a year for Deathloop to go in GP

People do not play AC Valhalla until played Origins and Odyssey but still plan to buy and play AC Valhalla at some point.

It is not necessarily because game is bad, just lack of time to play it. I bought it at launch but not played it much, due to lack of time.

Full priced Online games certainly deserve at least 3 years availability before a shut down is considered.
You can't compare Singleplayer Cyberpunk, which had a different kind of horrible launch (which was nothing to do with poor popularity) to that of an MP game which has a very small following.

If you want to compare it, look at games like Vack 4 Blood, it has an insanely small amount of players compared to Left 4 Dead 2 had in its first few months of release. They're banking on the first expansion to increase it, which it won't becauae once an MP game gets slated by almost everyone, it's very hard for it to bounce back.

Godfall also suffered, and even it having a free version of the endgame content couldn't get people to buy the singleplayer/co-op campaign.

The PS4 release of Cyberpunk, in particular, was only playable without any bugs after the PS5 came out and you could install it on that machine. It helps that a PS5 version is out now.

Vahalla also came out after Origins and Odyssey, so not sure what your point is there.
Do you mean back 4 blood? It is still operational and for sale, so is not comparable.

If you think paying £95 to a game decided to get shut down after 6 months is anywhere near ok, then you are not understanding me.

The point is to expect people to play it within 6 months is unreasonable. It definitely needs at least a year to make a proper decision.

I was not playing on my consoles much from April due to extreme hot weather, and I could not think straight and did the console no good. I am on it more now that the weather has finally cooled since last week. This year has been a exceptionally hot year, the hottest year ever. Probably other people too. Only robots would end up playing in this heat!

I was not playing Babylons Fall because it was rubbish, but because I was not playing much of anything due to hot weather. I have not had time to play it much to form an opinion yet!!!

GIVE US A CHANCE FOR CHRIST SAKES

The shutdown of any game after 6 months is seriously unreasonable, and paying the likes of £95 is daylight robbery. If they want to shut down so soon they need to refund.
That literally wasn't my point, but okay.
    Congratulations on your platinum.

Please stop quoting me at this point man. I’ve come to realise you’re spouting pure nonsense nonstop. It’s not worth my time to have you give me new notifications. Maybe if you actually read more than just shouting crazy sayso to the heavens you’d make more sense of things. You read one line then go on a biblical tyrant of pure nonsense and stupidity. Please stop now!

This site can only handle so much crazy.

You talking to me or Solace? But I assume me. This is the reason for quoting, so you know who you are responding to.

I did not realise notifications bother you, I do not use them myself.

One last notification to let you know I will not bother communicating with you any more, on anything.

None of what I said is nonsense, maybe some of you do not understand what I am trying to say, but none of it is not nonsense and Square Enix saying we can seek refunds is certainly not nonsense. Thought it needed re clarifying after it did really go crazy there

    Here is Square Enix email:
Thank you for contacting the Square Enix Support Centre.

We understand your frustration on the recent announcement regarding the end of service for BABYLON'S FALL.

If you would like to request a refund for the game, please contact the retailer you purchased the game from. We recommend to be specific about the game and the reason for the refund request to prevent any misunderstandings.

We will be happy to forward your feedback regarding the situation and can only apologise for any disappointment caused.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you require assistance with anything else.
    Kind regards,

The Square Enix Support Centre team
The email is addressed to me, so you would need contact Square Enix yourself. i doubt retailers would refund you if you showed them this page.

I hope it gets peoples £60-95 digital purchases back too.

It took me a while but I was able to find one of each. Most of the GameStop stores I had visited had either thrown them away in the trash or given them away. I was lucky I found one where the employee was willing to look in the back for me. Shout out to Conor for the awesome customer service!

I don't think I'll open them though. I don't see any damage - no cracks or anything. The plastic wrap is perfect - no holes or anything. I think I'll put them in a box and store them in the back of the closet. Who knows. Maybe, it might be worth something in a few years for something I got for free.

I'll let the one guy still playing Babylon's Fall enjoy his lonely virtual kingdom until the servers shut down.

The only thing of nonsense being said here is the “one guy still playing”

Every time I log in there are always others, then I create private server and play solo. I am not that “one guy” either

    1) The stats are from PC anyway, and 2) Maybe the stats just pick up 1 person in each server, but 1000s of servers with 1 person in each, but the stats just pick it up as 1 person?

I do not believe at all that only person was playing, but I do believe stats can be misread or misconstrued or glitched. On Monday I went to check the community challenge for Far Cry 6, and the community had to kill a million soldiers, but when I looked it said 0, 0% completed, but when I checked it again it was about 60%. Even if it was only 1 person at one moment, it is ludicrous to think that only one person would always be playing, and others not play later again.

Anyway the game is a bit like Phantasy Star Online, in a Code Vein setting. You are in a hub and take missions from a board and other NPCs to visit for marketplace, change appearance etc. Also similar to Jump Force but instead of being in an area, you battle your way from room to room battling monsters, then final room is a boss battle.

So far the game is very soloable, unless need help later

Hey hey!! Someone here actually managed to do it, great job!
I mean, I wouldn't count on these discs holding any value after the fact — if you want some real value out of these, play them and get some exceptionally clean and robust footage of the game before it goes offline. Store all that footage somewhere. Become the source on that.

I had a thought whether this is all to get people to play it so SE can basically turn around and release a bunch of silly microtransactions to get their money.

Stadia is now shutting down January 2023, being available far longer than Babylons Fall, and refunding hardware and software, which would cost them far more than Square Enix would cost refunding Babylons Fall which they are not openly doing

    https://www.eurogamer.net/stadia-is-shutting-down-in-january

Sony is becoming take take take and no (or not enough) give
Babylons Fall is looking to be an easy double Platinum
