Ubisoft restores PS3 servers — grab Assassin's Creed trophies now [updated]

  • Posted on 22 April 22 at 13:34, Edited on 22 April 22 at 13:40 by superniceguy_2
They are supposed to give 30 days notice. Their response to this is “ We do apologize for this inconvenience. Keep your eye on our page here for information on the degradation of the other titles.”

Pathetic. Time to blacklist Ubisoft good and proper unless they restore these servers for at least another 30 days

It is not just these servers they shut down without warning but the challenges for other non current games too, like AC Odyssey, Far Cry 5 New Dawn, Crew 2, etc etc and all games before the current new active versions, of each franchise.

Well, that's disappointing. They're obviously old games and no one would expect the servers to go indefinitely, but it just seems like common courtesy to let fans of these games know ahead of time when the multiplayer will be disappearing.

It is not just courtesy but they have legal obligation to give 30 days notice

Mostly they even cannot close servers to UK/EU players, just because it fits a developer/publisher better. Probely they do it based on their Terms. But UK/EU Unfair Terms regulation states: "Terms, enabling to alter unilaterally without a valid reason any characteristics of the product or service to be provided".

If they have valid reasons, you come at part of proper notificating upfront.

It appears one of two things are happening. Either they are fixing them or they are now attempting to cover up that they closed them down without warning, because they've removed the console versions of AC from the closure list.

To be honest, I'm surprised people are still playing the PS3 versions. Although, that being said, Brotherhood's MP is the only one worth playing.
    In my opinion ofcourse.
I think if they did a rerelease of Brotherhood's MP as it was with better graphics. It's sell a lot of copies on PS5.
Wait, I don't want to give Ubisoft anymore bad ideas, I retract this statement.
    Congratulations on your platinum.

They are now back online, likely they tried to close them but because they broke the law by not announcing so with 30 days notice, they had to restore them. They won't last much longer though!

Oooh, that fake outrage again. People, we're talking about games that are up to 13 years old, released on a platform that was discontinued six years ago (in the West) and saw its second successor in 2020. You had many years to complete these games. Plus, all of these games are available on current systems. It's not Ubisoft's fault that you haven't completed them yet. It's your fault and yours alone. Stop weeping like babies over something completely irrelevant.

Its not irrelevant regardless of age, ubisoft are legally required to announce 30 days notice minimum before server closure. They tried to breach this, claiming it was a server outage but added the games to a server close page then removed them after threats of legal action. They really are scum

They actually aren't, if you read the terms of service of most MP related games, it'll state that the game can change and services can stop without notice.

If a game stays popular, then it's likely the game will stay active longer. When the popularity dies down and the game stops making money, the servers will eventually shut, but it's up to the company if they shut them over night (which has happend in the past, EA has done it before) or they give the player base notice of said closure (which most companies opt for to keep the player base happy with their products and services).

I think Batman Arkham Origins was shut down over night once before being brought back to life before it was announced they'd shut and they eventually did, rendering the error code (although, in some cases you can be lucky and still somehow find your way on).
    Congratulations on your platinum.

They actually aren't, if you read the terms of service of most MP related games, it'll state that the game can change and services can stop without notice.
Both UK and EU Law/Regulations, particularly the one about Unfair Terms, state that "Terms, enabling to alter unilaterally without a valid reason any characteristics of the product or service to be provided" are unfair. So basic this means shutting down servers, especially those with Trophies, is altering the characteristics of the game and service. And so is not allowed. If terms are unclear, it is in favor of the customer.

Valid reason: Guess that when running servers for a game cost more, than what the game still brings in, they have a valid reason. But then there is a proper notification required. Further are the unfair terms in the EU, part of a bigger package with also: transparent and clear communicating to customers, ban on geoblocking within the EU, minimum of 2 year warranty, privacy.

And then there can be even more rules that makes you have to notify. For example a landlord cannot come tomorrow morning at your door, to tell, you have to leave the house the very same day. Even it is in their terms. If a company alters the price of a service (cause cost went up), they have to notify upfront so you can get an alternative and end the contract, if you do not agree to the price raise.

Not knowing how it is managed in the UK, but it is based on the EU one and maybe some own adjustments from after Brexit. In the EU, I think it is the commission who makes them, but every country has his own authority to report breaches to. In NL its the Customer and Market Authority, it belongs to the national government. Every country can set some extra things that they find unfair or should have a longer warranty.

There is also some multiplayer only DLC for sale too. I bought on Xbox 360 yesterday, but if that was still on sale when servers were said to be sunsetted then that is certainly illegal. Also there has to be fair time to use it. The game and DLC may have been available for about a decade, but not if you have only just bought it.

i swear it was meant to close on the 1st september but it seems we have an extra month, like that will do much for some games as those servers are empty, Assassins Creed III was tricky, Brotherhood will be impossible because i don't think theirs anyone playing it, if there is i would grind that like crazy, too bad Ubisoft won't release a patch that unlocks the Multiplayer Trophies upon launch, but theyre shit so thats a fools hope
