Hard to tell without knowing what the contracts exactly say. But guess each Company/Team does it for their own gains or potential gains.

Sony: It's bit clear they want more, and a more divers First Party games/exclusives lineup. By showing the companies, what they can achieve through Sony, they maybe become 1st Party later on or few of their employee's swap to of the Playstation Game Studio's 1st party teams.

Partnering Teams: Having acces to many resouces/knowledge/funds (last mainly guess as because of Covid Economics aftermath), for smaller independent companies, harder to get funds probely. Without having to fully commit to being a Playstation Company for always. A bit like friends with benefits situation. Or good sellout when Sony want them to become official 1st party team.

EA shares Engines also throughout several divisions. Frostbite engine from DICE, also gets used by EA Sports, Black Box, Ghost Games, BioWare, PopCap.
Still not can get, that in 2 weeks no one reported the C word cursing at PSNprofiles, while guy did in many topics

Love that description, perfect haha. Guess a buyout comes if a team can prove themselves and they like what they see from PlayStation.
On EA: I wonder if that is a little different because those studios are all inhouse EA. Sony seem ready to open up to independent studios who might not every be a part of the team. Seems pretty bold to open yourself up to potential leaks from unknow quantities, especially when they have been so secretive in the past. Exciting though!

Yeah, probely there things about that in the contract. Can indeed be, the contact is in that way, that they have to proof, what they can do with this Engine (and Sony has maybe better engine in development, no one yet has acces to, so less mind what happens with current).

Look also from way, if Sony not shows what they have to offer, if they join/achieve, they maybe get buyed by another Major player. So they also need to take some risks to sell themselfs.
