Riptide GP: Renegade Shows Off Big Head Mode, Easter Eggs, Inside Jokes and More

By Kelly Packard,
Matt Small, co-founder and Creative Director of Vector Unit, the studio behind Riptide GP: Renegade, detailed in a blog post some of the fun Easter eggs, inside jokes and silly modes players can expect in the upcoming water racer. Aside from looking to provide a quality racing experience, Vector Unit aims to provide plenty of laughs, too.

According to Small, one thing to note is that every level has at least one shortcut. He's even dropped an exact location of one of the more hidden shortcuts, so keep this one in mind:

One of the harder to find shortcuts is in Fountain Park, just after the fork with the big bonsai tree. Instead of following the water, drive up the wall under the bridge, and you’ll break through the fence onto the upper fountain level.
There is also an Easter egg on every one of the numerous tracks. Don't worry though, you won't have too much trouble recognizing them since they are literally brightly-painted Easter eggs. Finding all of them will unlock the "Chicken Head" decal, which should assert your egg dominance to other players. You'll be able to track which ones you've found through the Stats screen.

If you look closely in Renegade, you'll also be able to see plenty of references to their other games. Certain members of our community (who shall not be named, of course) may be pleased to learn it does indeed contain nods to Hydro Thunder Hurricane , Vector Unit's first game, as well as the Beach Buggy Racing series and the earlier Riptide GP games. There are also pop culture references to other games, movies and game development in general.

Last but not least, Small has given us the code to unlock Big Head Mode in Renegade. Unlike many games which may require you to accomplish a certain task before unlocking this special mode, Big Head Mode can be unlocked by simply punching in a combination on the title screen, which Small has revealed to be UUDDLRLR. You'll get an audio confirmation if you've entered the code correctly. Then the riders will look a little something like this:

Though he has revealed quite a bit, Small promised there's still plenty more for players to discover when Riptide GP: Renegade is out. When is that exactly? Well, for PlayStation 4, that's today, and Vector Unit has said other platforms are soon to follow.

We've got the full list of Riptide GP: Renegade trophies - check the list for guides to unlocking them.
