Homepage and News Story Redesign

By Jack Watling,
Just over a week ago we pushed out a site update for Pro Account members that introduced some huge styling changes to the homepage and news articles, as well as some smaller tweaks to tabs and side panels.

The main goal of the update was to freshen up the look of the site, make it easier for you to find and read articles that interest you, and to make the overall experience better.

After lots of great feedback and discussion we've now rolled the update out for everyone, along with numerous tweaks and fixes to various parts of the design. To list just a few:
  • The featured section's now a little bit smaller and features six items instead of five
  • The homepage width is now responsive for those on smaller screened devices
  • The dark theme is now fully functional with all of the style changes

Firstly, with such a huge change to the style of the site we figured it was also the perfect time to revamp the logo. We've changed both the icon and the font, and think it feels a lot more modern and a bit more PlayStation-esque.

Homepage

The top section of the homepage replaces the old carousel, allowing us to highlight six currently popular news stories at once, rather than you having to wait for them to appear individually like they did in the past.

Below this you'll find a list of the latest gaming news in chronological order, interspersed with breakout sections to highlight some of our more popular news items such as sales, reviews, editorials and community updates.

News Articles

The news articles have also had a full style overhaul with some additional formatting options available for our Newshounds to make their articles easier to read. We've also added some new navigation at the bottom of each to make it simpler to find other stories in which you might be interested.
